Second Anniversary

Two years ago I decided on a business name.

I filed the paper work, I created a website.

Compass Floral evolved from my many years as a retail florist. At 16 years old I walked into The Flower Shop in Encinitas and applied for a part time job. The community of women that worked in the shop took me in and became more than just bosses & coworkers, they became my family.  This was shortly after my own mother had passed away and I had moved between states to start in a new high school and things were honestly a bit rough. These women were always there as a shoulder to lean on, to give good strong Dr. Laura advice and to laugh with until we peed our pants. We rocked the 14 hour holiday shifts, we celebrated each delivery for the birth of a new baby and mourned the funerals that came through the shop.

Then there were the weddings.  No one loves weddings more than a florist.  We are there from your first date, your first Valentines together, when you get engaged and especially on your wedding day.

While I am still putting the finishing touches on our new studio space, here is a peek into my old studio and life as a florist through the magical lens of Ashley Williams .

This passion fruit vine in my yard is ridiculous!  My neighbors say it must be 10 years old and runs about 50ft along the fence between our properties.  With the abundance of flowers, foliage and fruit this one plant could possibly sustain a small villages needs for beauty, shelter and nourishment.
